Building Your Home
Planning ahead is one of the most important steps before building a new home. There are many things to consider - house plans, budget, home site, building schedule and the builder you hire to build your home. Communication before the building process begins and throughout construction are keys to ensure customer satisfaction with the finished product.
Greg Crawford works with his customers from day one to help them plan the home they envision. If a customer does not have their own house plans, Greg has several floorplans available. Greg also has an architect he works with to create custom home plans.
While the house plans and budget are still in the preliminary stage, Greg will visit the home site to determine how the house will be situated on the property. He will establish what kind of site work will be necessary – tree removal, hauling dirt, retention, etc. If the customer does not have their own property, Greg has several lots available to build on in Portage. He can also work with certain developers to help the customer select their desired home site.
Once the house plans and specifications have been finalized, the budget can also be finalized. When quoting a price for building a home, Greg gives realistic allowances based on what the customer wants. While Greg’s price might not be the lowest bid for a project, his reasoning for this approach is to be able to give the customer what they want without compromising quality.
From the time the foundation is in, it usually takes about four months to build a new house. Since Greg is an active participant in the building process, he is on the job site every day. This helps the subcontractors stay on schedule, permits the progress to be constantly monitored, and ultimately allows the projected completion date for the new home to be met.
All new homes come with a one year warranty. The building contract, home specifications and home warranty forms which Greg use are all issued by the Home Builders Association of Greater Kalamazoo.
